About Us

Bread is baked daily in an old-style, wood-fired oven.

It's as French as the Left Bank.  As gracious as an old farmhouse in Provence.  It is fragrant with baking breads and simmering soups.  And its welcome is as warm as a landscape by Monet.  A more authentically French restaurant is not to be found.

Owned by Chef William Severac and his wife, Muriel, Chez Gerard is located in the historic Hopwood House, dating from 1790, in the village of Hopwood, Pennsylvania, at the base of the Laurel Highlands.   It opened in August, 1994.

"Our food," says William, "is prepared as it would be in France - in the way of the French by the French."  The menu is extensive, ranging - in the words of one critic - "from the elegantly simple to the simply elegant, a culinary tour de force."  And it's all affordable:  dinners start at $40; luncheons at $21.

One of Chez Gerard's signature desserts, a "concerto" of pastries. The cart of more than 30 cheeses at Chez Gerard.Chez Gerard is located in Fayette County, a region rich in French and American history.  It has some fascinating neighbors, all of them only minutes away:   Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Laurel Caverns, and Ohiopyle State Park with its white-water rafting.  Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Mount Summit are also nearby.

Come to Chez Gerard and savor for yourself the cuisine and ambiance which is earning wide praise.  You'll find company which is both sophisticated and congenial.   Come for a slice of American history ... and a slice of French Camembert.   Come, make a memory.  Celebrate a wedding anniversary ... or an engagement ... a promotion ... or a birthday.  You'll be serenaded with "Happy Birthday" in French!

Or, just come celebrate the good life.  Chez Gerard makes an art of it!
